Shakanda is a tribal region with hundreds of individual tribes with greater or lesser power throughout the region. Most tribes exist outside of the city walls as nomadic people and have little say in the politics of the continent. However, at least four dozen powerful and wealthy tribes live within the city walls and are forever competing for resources and influences. As of this date, the ruling tribe has been in power for the last 100 years, and war has been a continual occurrence as Shakanda seeks to control every resource available in the sparse landscape. Other more peaceful tribes have tried and failed to dispose the current ruling tribe.

Nobody knows where he is now; he came originally—that is, he broke off—from some reeds. Some say that he was the reeds, because the word for them, uthlanga, means source. It was he who broke off the people from the reeds and then the cattle and other peoples. He also broke off medicine men and dreams. He was really the first man and the progenitor of other men. A woman followed him out of the original reeds, then a cow and a bull, then the other pairs of animals. Nkulunkulu created everything that is—mountains, cattle, streams, snakes. He taught the Zulu how to hunt, how to make fire with sticks, and how to eat corn. He named the animals for them. Nkulunkulu is in everything; he is in the corn, the tree, the water.

The Zulu believe in a creator god known as Nkulunkulu, but this god does not interact with humans and has no interest in everyday life. Therefore, most Zulus interact on a day to day level with the spirits. In order to interact with the spirits the Zulu must use divination to interact with the ancestors. All misfortune is a result of evil sorcery or offended spirits, nothing just happens because of natural causes. Zulu perform animal sacrifices before battle to ensure ancestral blessing. As well as inquiry at the bonding of a marriage so ensure protection for the bride and healthy children.

  • We need more female images in the style of the men above. I'd like picture submissions from players who are intending to play this race, only.
